There are many programmes outside of Ireland which promote garden habitats. In the United States, for instance, the National Wildlife Federation runs a "Backyard Habitat" programme which promotes garden habitats. Much of the information on this site has been adapted from programmes such as like this. You can browse their websites to find more information on garden habitats. Although these sites are geared towards non-Irish and often promote plant species that may not be available or native to Ireland, the ecological principles they describe are applicable anywhere in the world.
